Bunna Insurance S.C. was established on May 25, 2013, under license number 019/13. The company commenced public operations in August 2013 by providing General Insurance services, and subsequently expanded its portfolio on September 21, 2021, by launching Long-Term (Life) Insurance services.
Marking over ten years of operations, Bunna Insurance has achieved commendable success in capital growth and premium income. To stay competitive, ensure customer reliability, and meet the capital requirements of the National Bank of Ethiopia (Directive No S/B/34/2014), the company grew its paid-up capital from an initial Birr 6,715,000 to over Birr 200 million today. The company now serves a customer base of more than 50,000 across the country through a network of 35 branches located in Addis Ababa and regional cities.
The Significance of Our Name
The Amharic word “Bunna” translates to “Coffee” in English. As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia treats it as the backbone of its economy and a symbol of deep social and cultural significance. Drunk across all directions of the country regardless of social status or religion, coffee is enjoyed in ritualized ceremonies. An invitation to a coffee ceremony is a mark of friendship and respect, serving as a prime example of true Ethiopian hospitality.
