Hibret Insurance Company was established in November 1994 by a group of 87 foresighted Ethiopian individuals and enterprises. The company began its journey with an initial paid-up capital of Birr 8 million and an authorized capital of Birr 25 million. Committed to growth, innovation, and professionalism in non-life insurance services, Hibret has evolved into a prominent private insurer in Ethiopia.

Today, Hibret has a strong ownership base with 750+ shareholders. As of October 31, 2025, the company successfully raised its capital to ETB 1.4 billion, aligning with its strategic plan to reach a paid-up capital of 1.5 Billion Birr by 2027.

November 1994: Company Founding
Established by 87 founding Ethiopian individuals and enterprises with an initial paid-up capital of Birr 8 million.
1997: Life Insurance Pioneer
Becomes the first private-sector insurer in Ethiopia to offer Life insurance, introducing the With Profits Individual Life Policy.
October 2000: Strategic Acquisition
Acquires Lion Insurance, setting a historic precedent for consolidation and market expansion in Ethiopia's insurance sector.
